Quick answer

Use a clean source photo, lock the product’s shape and material, then describe one set, one light direction and one surface. Leave room for real copy. Do not generate labels, prices or claims that you cannot verify.

Best for

  • Ecommerce stills and marketplace images
  • Ad and email creative variants
  • Product concepts before a full studio shoot
01

Start with a clean product reference

A sharp photo on a simple background is easier to preserve. The model needs to see the product’s edges, finish and proportions. If the source has a busy background, remove it first or use a crop where the product is clearly separated.

Name what must not change: shape, cap, handle, material, colour, label placement. If the product has a reflective surface, say so. Reflections are part of the object, not decoration.

02

Build a set around one material story

Choose a surface and a backdrop that support the product. Skincare sits well on travertine, glass or warm plaster; electronics sit well on brushed metal, dark stone or clean acrylic; food sits well on ceramic, linen or wood.

Add props only when they explain scale, use or material. A eucalyptus sprig says “botanical”; a stack of towels says “bathroom”; a meaningless geometric shape says nothing. Two props are usually enough.

03

Light the material, not the mood board

Glass needs a clean highlight and a believable edge. Metal needs a controlled reflection. Fabric needs soft direction. Name the light source and the surface: “large softbox from the left, subtle fill, warm travertine plinth”.

A premium product image is usually quieter than a fashion image. Keep the background clean, the shadow controlled and the product edge sharp. If the product disappears into the background, change the value contrast before adding more colour.

04

Protect the commercial details

Do not let the model invent label text, certifications, prices or claims. Keep the product label blank or preserve the original label exactly, then composite the real artwork in a design tool. A wrong label is worse than a plain one.

Export several crops from the approved image: square for marketplace, 4:5 for social, 16:9 for a landing page. Keep the product in the same position so the set feels consistent across placements.

FAQ

  1. 1

Can I use my own product photo?

Yes. A clean, sharp source image works best. Upload it in image-to-image mode and state which product details must stay unchanged. Review the edges, proportions and label before publishing.

  2. 2

Which model is best for product photos?

GPT Image 2 and FLUX 2 Pro are the strongest starting points for product detail and material realism. SeeDream 5.0 Lite is useful for cheaper direction tests, and Qwen Image Edit can handle simple background replacement.

  3. 3

Can the AI write my product label?

Do not rely on it. Generated text is often wrong, and a wrong label creates commercial risk. Keep the label blank or preserve the original, then add the real artwork in a design tool.

  4. 4

Is a generated product image enough for a marketplace?

Check the marketplace’s rules first. Many require the image to accurately represent the product. Use generation for the set and lighting, but keep the product itself faithful to what the buyer will receive.

  5. 5

Does product image generation use credits?

Yes. The hosted image workflow uses purchased credits and has no unlimited free tier. The pricing page shows current credit packs and plans.
